Custom Wood Signs
at Martin's Tree Farm and Sawmill

Grace your Adirondack property or business with a sign of natural hardwood, decorated by nature and milled by us.

Our custom wooden signs are unique in concept and design and are handmade here at Martin's. They are customarily made from white pine, but other species are sometimes used. We find the most interesting grain and wood with the most character and pitch pockets in the tops or trees that have very low grade lumber in them. These give beauty and warmth to each sign. You may choose to have milled edges or the natural look -- called "waney edge" or "live edge".

Our letter stock also comes from basswood, poplar, and white pine harvested on our tree farm. Once the tree has been cut it is brought to the sawmill, where the logs are milled into the desired configuration. We offer half logs and slabs of any thickness and lengths up to eighteen feet. The letters are hand cut and range in thickness of ¼" to 1", with letter height normally 5" to 6" , each letter is fastened to log or slab by solid brass screws. Each sign receives four coats of exterior spar varnish, with a fifth coat added after letters have been installed. our signs are for interior and exterior use. We do recommend that a fresh coat of spar varnish be applied yearly to keep your sign protected from elements. Single-sided or double-sided signs are available, and all mounting hardware is included. We offer house numbers, logos, personal and business signs, or anything you can dream up.
