FICTION AMONG FRIENDS
AT
WILLOWS BISTRO
Through the
generous cooperation of Debbie Swan, proprietor of Willows Bistro, Fiction
Among Friends has enjoyed organizing and publicizing readings, workshops
and signings, available to writers from around the Adirondack region at
this cozy eatery and gift/book shop. Sign up to read by
emailing
Perky Granger
or stopping in to tell Debbie. Debbie offers a small selection
of soups, salads and sweets during readings. Those wishing to order food
should arrive early to place orders.
READINGS
Since June of
2009 over fifty writers have shared short oral selections from their works
at the monthly readings at the bistro.
On Deck:
Those
wishing to read are asked to sign
up three weeks in advance to help publicity efforts. Public
is invited to enjoy these readings. No admission is charged.

Walking Woodstock: Journeys into the
Wild Heart of America's Most Famous Small Town (Bushwhack Books),
Love in the City of Grudges (FootHills Publishing), My Late Mother
as a Ruffed Grouse (FootHills Publishing) plus the chapbooks When
I Had It Made (Pudding House) and The Fish Are Laughing (Pavement
Saw). His forthcoming chapbook is My Clone (Pudding House). His
work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and listed in Best American
Essays 2004. He now runs the Hudson Valley Poetry Blog at willnixon.com.

marked the beginning of a new cooperative venture between Fiction Among
Friends, Willows Bistro and the Adirondack
Center for Writing (ACW). Although our readings will continue
on the second Thursday of every month, every three months ACW will co-sponsor
a "featured reader." Our featured reader for June is none
other than PAUL PINES, whose works "Last Call at the Tin Palace"
and "My Brother's Madness" have earned national
acclaim. Paul's readings typically fill the house, so come early. Other
readers scheduled that evening were Doug Deneen, Lee Merrett, Megin
Potter.

Nineteen writers -- experienced folks and first-timers -- gathered
to learn and try techniques taught during this workshop, before
enjoying a hearty dinner and short readings by Irene and open
mic participants. What fun! Ms. Sherlock also will lead the Adirondack
Mountain Writers' Retreat at Wiawaka Holiday House,
July 27 - 29. Registrations now open. Contact
