I began working in clay in 1970 at the University
of Kentucky and further studied at the Penland School of Crafts, in
Penland, North Carolina, and at Haystack, in Deer Isle, Maine. I live
and work in Wakulla County, Florida, close to Tallahassee and to the
ocean, numerous rivers and wildlife refuges. My firing techniques include
high fire porcelain, raku and sawdust firing, as I strive to interpret
the forms, colors, and textures of nature. My work is a journey which
never ceases to surprise as the unexpected effects of fire and glaze,
temperature, and even weather conditions continually lead to new ideas.
Because of the spontaneous nature of clay, my work is a dialogue between
my goals as an artist and the elemental gifts of the medium.
