ACCOMMODATIONS
& AMENITIES
AT
ST. GEORGE 2010
ABBEYFEALE
Guests
will be housed in Abbeyfeale, an attractively appointed beach view home overlooking
the Gulf of Mexico in the gated community of St. George Plantation. For those
times when you need to stretch your muscles and let your mind float, hike along
the white sandy beach, swim in Abbeyfeale's private pool (weather permitting),
or pedal along miles of bike path. Bring your own bicycle, or rent one from an
island rental shop. This residence is has an elevator for easier access. Smoking
and pets are not permitted on the retreat property. Guests will share rooms and
bathrooms, but will not share beds. Visit http://www.resortvacationproperties.com/vacationrentals/details.php?propcode=ABBEYFE&SRCH=tr
to see all the amenities. By clicking on the link there for St. George Plantation
map, you will see Abbeyfeale. To drive there, you will proceed through the plantation
gate, drive along Leisure Lane until you get near the airport. Watch for Windy
Pass on the left. Pass Windy Pass and go on to the NEXT left, which is Nick's
Way. (You'll see a sign that says "Nick's Hole.") At the end of Nick's
Way turn left and proceed to the cul de sac. A sign reading "Abbeyfeale"
is on your left, and I'll have a writers' retreat sign out in front, as well. Upon
arrival, guests will be supplied with clean bath linens and a bed which has been
made up. There is no maid service during our stay.
MEALS
As noted on the registration and rates pages, all participants
are asked to share the responsibility of providing meals. Each person is asked
to handle (shopping,
preparation, serving and clean-up) either
one evening dinner, two noon lunches, or four breakfasts, and give the organizers
some idea of what she will offer so we can be assured of a reasonable variety
in the menu over the course of the five days of the retreat. Food need not be
fancy, just reasonably nutritious and filling. It may be prepared prior to your
arrival and transported, prepared on site, or purchased from a deli or other take-out
facility. You make the decision of how to handle your meal(s). After we meet,
each member of the group will also be asked to sign up to help out in the preparation,
serving and clean-up of one other meal, so you will have a helper. We will have
some staples on hand: juice, soda, coffee & tea (and fixin's), butter, salt
and pepper....you get the idea.
There
is a small market on the island, and there are a couple of larger stores within
a few miles on the mainland, but no huge supermarkets. This may influence your
grocery shopping plans. As
participants "claim" meals and name their entrees, I will list them
below to aid others in planning. Meals
will be served family style. We regret that we cannot cater to special diets.
Hot and cold beverages will be available around the clock.
