Help
us to bring hundreds of shoppers to Thurman by registering your
yard sale.
The
Thurman Townwide Sale is made possible through the cooperation
of the residents of Thurman, local businesses, and the Town
of Thurman Occupancy Tax Committee.
|
The Thurman Townwide Sale is organized to offer Thurman
residents an opportunity to hold old-fashioned yard sales on their own
property. No provision is made for out-of-town vendors to sell at this
event. Local not-for-profit groups holding sales are not charged, but
are asked to stop in to register so they can be listed.
How to Register your sale:
It's as easy as 1, 2, 3!
|
1. Make
the decision to hold a sale, and start sorting, cleaning and pricing
your items. Try to make
a plan for selling in case of inclement weather.
|
2.
Sign up at the Town Hall with Townwide Sale volunteers:
3-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, April
29, 30, May 1, 2 & 3.
Please sign up with our volunteers only.
If you are unable to go on the scheduled afternoons, make arrangements
with a friend to register for you.
|
3. When you sign up, please have the following with you:
a. $3
b. A list of some of the most appealing items you plan to sell
c. Your correct 911 address. Decide which day or days you will sell:

Volunteers will provide you with a numbered site sign and will offer
you other signs to help people find your sale and those of your
neighbors.

WHY BOTHER?
We
sometimes hear a person say he thinks he doesn't need a sign, as plenty
of shoppers will find his sale.
The Townwide
Sale Committee asks him to think again.
Think about the cost of printing signs, maps, flyers and banners, of
buying ads from Albany to Plattsburgh, Vermont to Utica, all to bring
shoppers to Thurman. Think about the work the committee invests in posting
those signs and banners, arranging for ads and press releases, and sitting
at Town Hall for five days waiting for him to stop by to register. And
then think about the fact that shoppers are more apt to come when they
know there will be a large number of sales, and if his isn't listed,
we can't count it in our publicity.
The
Townwide Sale Committee asks why he wouldn't bother!
